Disclaimer & No Professional Advice
Everything I publish here is personal opinion and general information only — not financial, tax, legal, or medical advice. Act at your own risk.
IN EFFECT
This page explains the spirit in which I write and the limits of what you should take from anything published on this site. Please read it before relying on anything here. It sits alongside my Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
General disclaimer
The written content on this site — the articles, commentary, technical write-ups, code snippets, and opinions — is my personal work, written by me, Troy Kelly, as an individual, and reflects my own views at the time of writing. The answers from the “Ask the blog” assistant are machine-generated rather than written by me — see the AI assistant section below. All of it is provided for general information and interest only.
It is not tailored to you, your circumstances, or your goals, and I do not know your situation. You should treat it as a starting point for your own thinking and enquiry, not as a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who has considered your specific circumstances. If you act on anything you read here, you do so at your own risk, and I am not responsible for any loss, damage, or other consequence that results from your reliance on it.
Nothing on this site creates any professional, advisory, or fiduciary relationship between us. To the extent the Australian Consumer Law applies, nothing in this disclaimer limits or excludes any rights or guarantees you have that cannot lawfully be excluded — see “How this disclaimer works with the Australian Consumer Law” at the end of this page.
No professional advice
The content on this site is not professional advice of any kind. In particular, it is not financial, investment, tax, legal, medical, or other professional advice, and it should not be relied on as such.
Professional advice depends on your individual facts, and it should come from a licensed or qualified professional who has assessed your situation. Before you make any decision that matters to you, please obtain your own advice from an appropriately qualified professional. The more specific sections below spell this out for the areas readers most often ask about.
No financial product or investment advice
Nothing on this site is financial product advice or investment advice, and it is not intended to be.
I do not hold, and do not act under, an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL), and I am not authorised to provide financial product advice. Nothing I publish is a recommendation, statement of opinion, or report intended to influence you in making a decision to acquire, hold, or dispose of any financial product — including shares, securities, funds, superannuation, insurance, interests in managed schemes, derivatives, foreign exchange, or crypto-assets. Any mention of a company, asset, market, product, or strategy is general commentary and observation, not a suggestion that you buy, sell, or hold anything.
Markets carry risk, and the value of investments can fall as well as rise. Decisions about financial products can have serious and lasting consequences, so before making any such decision you should seek advice from a licensed financial adviser and, where relevant, read the applicable product disclosure statement or offer document.
For abundant caution — and not as an admission that any financial product advice of any kind is given — I confirm that I have not considered your objectives, financial situation, or needs, because this content is general information published to the public and is not directed to you.
No tax advice
Nothing on this site is tax advice. Tax outcomes depend on your particular circumstances and on rules that change over time and differ between people. Before you act on anything with a tax dimension, please obtain advice from a registered tax agent or another suitably qualified professional, and consider your position with the Australian Taxation Office where relevant.
No legal advice
Nothing on this site is legal advice, and reading it does not make me your lawyer. Any comment I make about the law is general information and my own understanding at the time of writing; the law changes, and how it applies turns on the specific facts. For advice about your own situation, please consult a qualified Australian legal practitioner.
No medical advice
Nothing on this site is medical, health, or clinical advice, and it is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified health professional. Do not use anything here to diagnose, treat, or manage a health condition, and do not delay seeking or disregard professional medical advice because of something you have read here. If you have a health concern, please speak with a doctor or another appropriately qualified practitioner. If your situation is urgent, contact your local emergency service (in Australia, dial 000).
Currency and accuracy
I write in good faith and try to be accurate, but I make no promise that anything on this site is complete, current, or free of error.
Content can date quickly. A post reflects what I understood, believed, or observed at the time I wrote it, and I may not revisit it as circumstances, technology, prices, or the law move on. I am under no obligation to update, correct, or maintain any content, and older material may no longer reflect my current views or the current state of things. Please check the date on anything you rely on, and confirm important facts against a current, authoritative source.
AI assistant (“Ask the blog”)
This site offers an “Ask the blog” assistant that lets you ask a question (up to 500 characters) and receive an answer drawn from my published posts.
The answers are machine-generated. The assistant retrieves passages from my published articles and uses a generative AI model to compose a response from them, with citations back to the source articles. Like all such systems, it can be wrong: an answer may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, or fabricated, may misread the source, or may present something with more confidence than it deserves. It is general information only, it is not advice of any kind, and it does not represent a considered or personal response from me.
Please treat every answer as a prompt to check the original, not as the final word. Verify what it tells you against the cited source articles and against other reliable sources before relying on it.
Your question is processed during the request so the assistant can answer it, and it is not stored or logged by this site. The question is sent to an external AI gateway and model to generate the answer; how those external providers handle it is governed by their own terms, not mine. There is more detail in my Privacy Policy.
External links and third-party content
This site links to, quotes, and sometimes embeds third-party material — including websites, articles, and media such as YouTube, Vimeo, or SoundCloud content.
I do not control that material and I am not responsible for it. A link or embed is not an endorsement, and I do not guarantee the accuracy, safety, or availability of anything you reach by following it. When you leave this site or load embedded content, you are subject to the other party’s terms and privacy practices, not mine; my Cookies & Analytics page explains what embedded media can do in your browser.
I do not currently publish sponsored posts or affiliate links. If that ever changes, I will clearly disclose any sponsored, paid, or affiliate content at the point where it appears, so you can weigh it accordingly.
How this disclaimer works with the Australian Consumer Law
This page is a general-information notice about the nature of my writing. It is not, and is not intended to be, a blanket exclusion of my liability.
To the extent the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) applies to anything I provide, you keep the benefit of any consumer guarantees and other rights and remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified, and nothing on this page operates to exclude, restrict, or modify them. In particular, nothing here is intended to exclude any liability I may have for misleading or deceptive conduct. Any limitation of my liability applies only to the extent the law allows, as set out in my Terms of Use.
